✳︎ MY AI GUIDE
Claude → Canva
the 60-second setup
The exact setup to design carousels inside Claude and export them to Canva as fully editable templates, plus the prompts that get the best designs.
✓The Canva connector works on every Claude plan, including Free.
!The Design tab needs a paid plan (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise). It is a research preview by Anthropic Labs and is still rolling out, so if you do not see it yet, check back soon.
The Setup
Tick off the 4 steps
Tap each step as you do it. The whole thing genuinely takes about a minute.
0/4
1. Connect your Canva account
One click and a quick login
In Claude, open Settings → Connectors, find Canva and hit Connect. A Canva login window pops up, approve it, done. Works on every plan.
2. Open the Design tab
Where the magic happens
Back in Claude, look in the sidebar for Design and open it. Needs a paid plan (research preview, still rolling out). Then start a new project and give it a name.
3. Upload your reference posts
This is what makes it YOURS
Drop in 3-4 posts or carousels that have the vibe you want (screenshots work). Claude analyses them and builds in that exact aesthetic instead of a generic template look.
4. Generate, then Export to Canva
Fully editable, not locked in
Paste one of the prompts below, generate, then hit Export to Canva. It opens in your Canva as a fully editable design: every text box, shape and colour is yours to change.
Setup done. Now grab the prompts below and make something 👇
The Payload
The 3 prompts that get the best designs
Copy, paste into the Design tab, and fill the [brackets] with your specifics. Specific in, beautiful out.
1 · The aesthetic clone
When you want it to look like the references
Study the attached references and describe their design language: colours, type, spacing, mood. Then build a 5-slide Instagram carousel about [topic] in exactly that language. One idea per slide, a hook on slide 1, a CTA on the last slide.
2 · The brand-safe version
When it has to match YOUR brand
Here are my brand colours [hex codes] and my logo. Build a carousel about [topic] using ONLY these colours, generous white space, and bold headline typography. Keep every claim from the notes I have pasted, change nothing factual.
3 · The iterate-fast one
When you do not know what you want yet
Show me 3 different visual directions for slide 1 only: one minimal, one bold and colourful, one editorial. I will pick a direction, then you build the full carousel in it.
💡The real cheat code: before you prompt, upload 3-4 posts or carousels whose LOOK you love (screenshots are fine). Claude reads the aesthetic from them and matches it.
Stuck?
Quick fixes
Two likely reasons: (1) it needs a paid plan (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise), and (2) it is an Anthropic Labs research preview that is still rolling out, so even some paid accounts get it days apart. Check the sidebar again after a day or two.
Make sure you are on claude.ai in a browser (not only the mobile app), then Settings → Connectors and scroll or search for Canva. If it is still missing, log out and back in; the connectors list refreshes with your session.
Open canva.com → Projects → look for the newest design (it lands as its own editable design, not inside a folder). Still nothing? Reconnect the Canva connector in Claude settings and export again; the first-ever export sometimes needs a fresh connection.
That is almost always a references problem, not a Claude problem. Upload 3-4 examples whose style you love BEFORE prompting, and make your [topic] specific ("5 pricing mistakes freelance designers make", not "business tips"). Specific in, beautiful out.
