Anthropic is cutting out the middleman by putting Claude directly into the terminal. However, this puts immense pressure on independent open-source tools like Aider. Anthropic has the advantage of deep model integration, but builders should still test both to see which tool handles complex multi-file edits and context windows more efficiently without racking up massive API bills.
