Add iMessage and WeChat Support
TL;DR
Hermes now supports iMessage via BlueBubbles and native WeChat/WeCom integration, bringing the agent to major messaging ecosystems with full support for media uploads and streaming.
## What changed Hermes Agent version 0.9.0, released on April 13 2026, added iMessage support through BlueBubbles along with native WeChat and WeCom integrations. The update includes full media uploads and streaming across these channels.
The change expands the existing list of 16 messaging platforms to cover Apple and major Chinese ecosystems from a single self-hosted instance.
## Why it matters This move lets Vibe Builders reach the agent from phones they already use daily instead of routing everything through Telegram or Discord. It pressures hosted SaaS agents that still limit users to one or two gateways and raises the bar for any self-hosted competitor missing broad platform coverage.
The underlying bet is that persistent memory and auto-generated skills become more valuable when the agent sits inside the messaging apps people live in rather than behind a separate login.
## How to use it Run the command /update inside an active Hermes session or re-execute the one-line bash install script from the Nous Research GitHub repository on a Python 3.10+ VPS. Version 0.9.0 is live now under the free MIT license.
For iMessage, point the gateway at a Mac running BlueBubbles. For WeChat and WeCom, supply the official API credentials in the YAML config file. No extra subscription is required beyond your chosen LLM provider costs.
## Watch for Stable media handling and low-latency replies on iMessage and WeChat will confirm the integration works as advertised. Frequent BlueBubbles disconnects or missing message history would break the value. Expect the next release to add tighter mobile hosting options or additional regional platforms.
Harsh’s take
For a solo Vibe Builder running a real business in 2026 this update removes one practical friction: you can now message your agent from the same iMessage thread you use with clients or family. The trade-off remains the always-on VPS requirement and the need to maintain bot tokens and YAML files yourself.
Most people will still hit the gateway setup wall before they ever reach the new platforms. If your workflow depends on quick delegation without server maintenance, this feature changes little.
Do this now: spin up or update the VPS instance, connect iMessage through BlueBubbles, and test a single recurring task end to end before adding WeChat.
